Whimsical And Adventurous Reads that made me fall

in love With Reading

Hello there dear reader! Oof finally!! I’ve decided upon the first line to write in this post, this was such a tedious task. They say that first step is the hardest one to make, seems like they weren’t lying but boy am I glad that I took it though.

A warm welcome to all the readers here who have decided to join me in my journey. As a child, I always looked for four leaved clovers, checked cupboards for magical worlds, reached into sunbeams to find a portal and in some ways I still am the person who seeks wonder in everything, from little trinkets to exploring new places to travel.

But above all, it was when I started getting lost in stories that I fully understood the beauty of books. Since then they have been my constant companions, through Sunday rainy afternoons, my mealtimes, train journeys and almost every night to bed. Between their pages, I found an escape, comfort and a kind of belonging I hadn’t found in the real world.

The following are a few of my first reads that sparked my avid reading habit, the majority of which were by Enid Blyton, one of my favourite authors at the time. Here are a few of her books to check out.

1. The faraway tree series

The Faraway Tree series, is one of my go-to books whenever I felt that my world was too small or too ordinary—which, let’s be honest, was quite often. Nestled in the middle of an enchanted forest (the kind you’d definitely want to stumble upon during a picnic), this towering, magical tree became a portal to all sorts of curious places and even curiouser characters.

It’s one of those rare books that made me believe anything was possible—from lands that could vanish overnight to friends who weren’t always human but their bonds were one to be truly remembered. Even today, opening that book feels like unlocking a door only a few of us know exist, a door that leads straight to wonder.

2. The secret seven

The Secret Seven series, was my first taste of mystery, I still remember the day I bought two of the secret seven books from a small town fair, little did I know that it would be my introduction to a whole new world, the kind that didn’t feel scary but made your heart race just enough. It followed a group of children with secret passwords, hidden clubhouses, and an unshakeable sense of purpose, which to my younger self, felt like the pinnacle of being clever and brave.

There was something incredibly thrilling about their little world, where their ordinary afternoons could suddenly turn into mini adventures, and where solving small puzzles felt like changing the world. It made me believe that even I, plain old me, could one day solve problems that trouble me and the world. And sometimes that is all that is needed to fill up several little hearts with the belief and the courage they need.

3. The famous five

Another pick that is very similar to the one above would be The Famous Five series, a whopping collection of 21 books to dive into.

These stories were like sun-drenched escapades—filled with picnics, secret tunnels, treasures, and the kind of freedom that only childhood summers could hold. It reminds me of my own summers where I used to bask in streams close to my Grandma’s place munching on freshly plucked guavas.

Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and their loyal dog Timmy weren’t just characters on a page, they felt like friends I could tag along with, if only I could hop into the book’s pages and into their world. There was something deeply comforting in the way their adventures always began with something so ordinary—holidays, a walk, a boat ride—and slowly unfolded into something thrilling. It made me believe that perhaps adventure was waiting just around the corner in my own life too. Even now, those pages bring back the smell of sea air, the taste of refreshing lemonades , and the joy of solving a mystery not with magic, but with instinct, courage, and good old-fashioned curiosity.

4. The adventures of the wishing chair

Continuing the hunt for a good read, I happened to stumble upon The Adventures of the Wishing-Chair . I mean, who wouldn’t want to be whisked away in an enchanted chair to faraway magical lands? I first read this book during my 7th-grade summer holidays, on a long train ride back to my native place.

Well… I must offer a sincere apology to my fellow passengers—because I absolutely could not control my laughter throughout the journey (smiles sheepishly). I  swear it wasn’t intentional, but the book had me giggling page after page, completely oblivious to the curious stares around me.

Anyway, enough about me—let’s talk about the charm of this book. It’s the first in a delightful trilogy where two siblings, Mollie and Peter, discover a magical chair that sprouts wings and takes them on the most unexpected adventures. Whether it’s visiting peculiar lands filled with talking creatures, getting tangled up in mischief, or narrowly escaping the odd troublemaker, each chapter is bursting with imagination and old-school magic. What makes it extra special is how quickly you’re swept away—there’s hardly a dull moment. The stories are short, punchy, and perfect for reading in bits (or binging in one sitting, like I did). It’s light hearted, silly in the best way, and full of those unpredictable twists that will be a pure delight to it’s readers.

Even today, just thinking about that flying chair makes me smile. It’s one of those books that reminds you why you fell in love with reading in the first place—because sometimes, all it takes is a little magic (and maybe a pair of wings on a chair).

5. Malory towers

Another book that has come highly recommended by so many fellow readers is Malory Towers and it’s easy to see why it’s held such a treasured spot on countless childhood bookshelves. Set in a charming boarding school perched by the sea, the series follows, Darrell Rivers a spirited young girl navigating the highs and lows of school life—friendships, rivalries, personal growth, and just the right touch of mischief.

Everyone who’s read it tells me the same thing: you’ll fall in love with the characters. Each girl at Malory Towers has her own quirks and fire, and watching them grow, stumble, and support each other makes for the kind of feel-good reading that lingers. From midnight feasts and dorm room secrets to cliffside games and heartfelt lessons, it’s packed with moments that are both light hearted and deeply relatable.

If you’re someone who loves stories about friendship, found families, and growing up with just enough drama to make it fun—Malory Towers is a series you’ll want to curl up with (preferably with snacks and a cozy blanket). Based on all the glowing praise it’s received over the years, I can’t wait to read it myself soon ( For those questioning my choices, I am still a child at heart) .

Well these are my recommendations in this post.  I hope you’ll enjoy these reads as much as I did or maybe more. The links to these wonderful reads will be put up soon. Stay tuned and lookout for more posts that’ll introduce you to your favourite reads.

Looking forward to see you all in the next post. Signing off this is Aish! Happy Reading !!
